Big Wong – Thai & Chinese Food Restaurant
When I was in Gurugram last week, I wanted to try Thai food, one of my friend suggested this place named Big Wong. I looked for its zomato reviews, it was all good, so we went there. This is located in Baani square which is a place filled with restaurants. There are many small and big restaurants in baani square. You can get all flavors and cuisines at one place. The location, hence was quiet good. When we went to the restaurant, it was full, we had to wait for 1/2 hour to get a table. For that they had a tablet system, by which they informed us about the table.
Ambiance
It is a restaurant spread in a very small area, like most of the restaurants at Baani square. What I liked about the place was the vibrant colored table mats and the big poster of women dressed in traditional Thai dresses. Rest of it was little dull, could have been much better. Sitting arrangement was simple, 3-4 dining tables were arranged in a row.
Staff & Service
Staff was nice, courteous and service was quick.
Menu
Menu is different from what we usually experience at restaurants. Many dishes were not explained which made it really difficult to order. For someone who has never tried Thai food before, it was a really difficult menu to chose from. For vegetarians, options become even less.
Food
Presentation of the food was no doubt very nice. My taste palate could not understand the taste of authentic thai food. I was having it the first time so i have no idea. How it should have tasted. I will be reviewing solely on basis of what suited my taste buds. Our order was
- Manchow soup
- Crystal Dimsums
- Tofu kung pao
Manchow Soup
This soup was really good. Very nice flavors, perfectly balanced spices and condiments. Loved it.
Crystal Dimsums
These dim sums were pretty good, very thin outer layer, mildly spiced served with three different sauces. One was extremely spicy, one was light and creamy and one was very garlicky. I liked the creamy sauce.
Tofu kung pao
Why the hell did we order this dish? I didnt liked the taste of tofu at all. If tofu really tastes like this, I am not having tofu ever again. Even the sauce was not good in taste. I could not eat this dish. This dish let me down completely. After having it, I just didnt felt that i can have any more thai food. So we paid the cheque and left.
Cost
Prices are reasonable but too much taxation makes the bill quiet heavy on your pocket.
Big Wong can be visited once but do not order tofu. Take someone who understands Thai food with you if you are new to it.
